Skilled National Artisan Takes Responsibility, Technology Empowers Problem-Solving

Recently, Fushun Bright Technology Co., Ltd. successfully resolved the magnetic blow issue occurring during the welding of 500-millimeter-diameter pipelines. The company fulfilled order delivery on schedule and upheld its corporate reputation. This technological breakthrough owes much to the professional guidance and strong support from 82-year-old Liu Hongzhang, a master welder affiliated with the Science Popularization Group of the Working Committee for the Care of the Next Generation.
On April 30, 2026, Bright Technology undertook a welding project for large-diameter pipelines. Shortly after construction commenced, the technical team detected intense residual magnetism on the pipelines, triggering severe magnetic blow of welding arcs. The defect caused arc deviation and compromised welding quality, bringing operations to a halt. Magnetic blow is a common tricky problem in DC arc welding. Strong residual magnetism on workpieces interferes with the arc magnetic field, disrupting magnetic uniformity and leading to weld porosity, slag inclusion and even failed welding.
The technical team launched an urgent research campaign. Conventional solutions such as adjusting welding current and electrode angle were tested for two consecutive days yet proved ineffective. The enterprise faced potential delivery delays and reputational risks.
In this critical situation, the company sought assistance from the science popularization group and invited Liu Hongzhang for on-site guidance. Despite his advanced age, Liu immediately inspected production sites and pinpointed the root cause of magnetic blow based on decades of practical experience and professional theories. He put forward two targeted solutions: applying the winding method to generate reverse magnetic fields and offset residual magnetism, and adjusting electrode polarity to cut magnetic induction lines.
The second method delivered remarkable results, stabilizing welding arcs and resuming smooth construction. Under Liu’s guidance, the team completed welding tasks punctually, avoiding economic losses and safeguarding corporate credibility.
To consolidate technical achievements and upgrade staff proficiency, Liu paid another visit on May 13 and delivered professional training sessions. Combining the practical case, he elaborated on welding essentials, magnetic blow countermeasures and operational norms, and gave hands-on instructions. The training effectively remedied technical deficiencies and boosted the overall competence of the welding team.
On May 14, all participating welders passed municipal professional examinations with solid theoretical knowledge and proficient practical skills, fully demonstrating the fruitful training outcomes and laying a solid foundation for undertaking sophisticated welding projects in the future.
